Muhazi Bridge
River name: This
is a crossing over a wetland marsh that extends miles up from the edge
of Lake Muhazi.
Bridge span: 65.5 meters / 215 feet
Population served by bridge:
1,000 people
Bridge Story: Rwanda
is still reeling under the weight of the mass genocide that occurred in
1990's. Though the economy has rebounded to pre-genocide levels, rural
poverty rates are higher than before, especially among women. This bridge
will greatly assist this local village with economic growth. For example,
the new span will shorten the distance to market from 12 km to about 6
km. Local children will have access to schools, and the sick quicker access
to clinics. |
