Tres Unidos

Bridge name: Tres Unidos Foot Bridge
River name: Mishquiacu River
Bridge span: 65 meters / 213+ feet
Population served by bridge: 2,000 people

Bridge Story: This bridge project was very unique. Rather than being a part of the regular Bridges to Prosperity program in Peru, this bridge was designed, funded, and constructed under the supervision of Eric Kuhn and his firm Alpin Technik of Leipzig, Germany.

Tres Unidos is located deep in the Amazon region. Its economics were formerly based on growing coca and being a reloading place for cocaine. With the downturn of drug trafficking, village people lost their source of income and had to turn on growing sugarcane and vegetables instead. The best farmland is on the opposite side of the Mishquiacu River. Depending on the time of the year, the river can swell up to 3 meters (10 feet) in depth, and the next crossing is about 45 minutes away by foot. Their farmland is difficult to reach, and the children helping in the fields are not able to attend school. It is a terrible choice for their families. The footbridge will solve this problem.
