Maliana Footbridge Project Slide Show Community Name: Bridge Sponsors: Carrot Tree Kitchens, Yorktown, VA Partners: Timor-Leste Ministry of Infrastructure, Parsons Brinckerhoff Volunteers: Dedication: Memorial: River Name: Bridge Name: Maliana Footbridge Bridge Span: 23 meters Pedestrian Footbridge Type: Simple Steel Span Population Served by Bridge: Expected Traffic: Bridge Story: The Bulobo River divides the village of Ritabu in half with about a third of the population living on the north bank and the other two thirds living on the south bank. Access to the primary and junior high schools, located on the north bank, is cut off to the children living on the south bank during the periods of heavy rain. Similarly, the residents from the north bank are unable to access the hospital and markets located on the south bank. During rain events, the existing road becomes impassable to both pedestrians and vehicles. The footbridge would provide a safe crossing during the high water level period, which occurs several times a year.
