Bridge Story: The Rio Mantaro is one of the largest in Peru which for most of its long stretch is deep and swift year-round. In Huancavelica, the Rio Mantaro takes a rest for a mile stretching out across a wide plain and slowing down - for most of the year. When the rains come she is as dangerous as she can be in the deeper areas and denies passage for any who might want to cross; and the community of Chaypara would like to cross. They grow fruits across the River from the main highway, or from any road access and cross the river at her shallowest parts for most of the year. When the rains come their fruit remains on the other side with no way of reaching eager consumers and tons of melons and mangoes rot every year. The community would rather make money from their crops and so they'll build a bridge with the help of their local government and Bridges To Prosperity.
