Project Slide Show
The community of Boca de Macho is in the West corner of Panama, near the Costa Rican border. From David, Panama the town of San Juan is approximately 60 km east on the Pan-American Highway by car. From San Juan, a 25 minute -4.5 km) truck ride north on a feeder road and a 25 min (~1 km) hike are required to reach the crossing site near the village of Boca de Macho.
Road access to the community exists; however, a four-wheel drive vehicle may be required. The road can be accessed via the feeder road at an entrance north of where we hiked in and out of the village. The entrance can be viewed via Google Maps or Google Earth using these coordinates: 8.324738, -81.974562. Visible in the map are power lines which will be helpful in determining the location in country. The entrance of this track to the community is approximately 600 m east of the proposed bridge location.
Proposed Bridge Schedule
The dry season in Panama lasts from mid-December to April. The team has proposed beginning construction in January 2011, allowing them to raise additional funds in the intermediate time.
