Bridge Dedication: Pax and Lucy Goodson Bridge Name: Mezcallillo River Name: Tributary of the Rio Grande del Mejocote Pedestrian Footbridge Type: Suspended Bridge Span: 44m (145 ft) Population Served by Bridge: 216 Bridge Story: Last year, during the long rainy season, a pregnant woman crossed the slippery log that spans the swollen river in Mezcalillo and fell. She nearly lost her child as it took her nearly 6 hours to reach the nearest clinic. She and her child are now well, but they will no longer risk passing over the river during the long rainy months. Soon, they will be able to pass safely, without fear. Soon, the community, in cooperation with the local government and partner organizations Helvetas and Bridges to Prosperity, will be building a real bridge – a strong and safe bridge that will stand for decades to come.
