Bridge Story: The Los Montes Simple Span Bridge is located about one kilometer up-river from the vehicle crossing of the El Palmer River at Los Montes. The vehicle crossing is an on-grade, somewhat paved, crossing which can be used during times of low water. On June 27th, 2005, an eight ton truck transporting a soccer team and fans attempted to cross the river at this point. The strong current overturned the truck and 32 people lost their lives.  The truck was dragged three kilometers down the river by the strong current.
The gabion bridge is 9 meters long and built with horizontal steel support members and a wooden deck.  This allows villagers to safely cross the El Palmer River at any time of the year.
