James Paul

James Paul was born in Petionville and raised in Gonaives, Haiti. Following graduation as a civil engineer, James worked as field supervisor at IOM in rural area in Haiti. In August 2010, James moved to The United States to attend Virginia Tech and complete his thesis on the design and the construction of cable-stayed pedestrian footbridges. James also has completed coursework with The University of Buffalo in Earthquake Engineering Design and Assessment Post-Earthquake. Following his return to Haiti, James volunteered as the Bridges to Prosperity Chapter at Virginia Tech Construction Manager, leading the construction of the first suspended footbridge in Haiti. James joined the Bridges to Prosperity team full-time in August 2011 and looks forward to a career path which allows him to reach the most rural and most isolated communities in Haiti.

Mission Statement. Bridges To Prosperity is a volunteer based charity that seeks to empower poor African, Asian and South American rural communities through footbridge building, thereby advancing personal responsibility, community public works, economic prosperity, and access to schools, clinics, jobs, and markets.
