Harmon Parker
Harmon is the founder of Bridging the Gap. He was raised in Lexington Kentucky and got an early start in the construction industry working as a master mason for many years. He married his wife Teri in 1984 and they have one son, Joshua. In 1990, the family moved to Kenya and began what has become their life’s work. Harmon constructed his first successful footbridge in 1997 in response to the need from a local village, and word of his work began to spread. In the years since, he has built more than 46 footbridges in rural Kenya. In September 2010, a CNN blue ribbon panel selected Harmon as one of the top Ten CNN Heroes from more than 10,000 applicants worldwide. The award, and the international recognition it brought, was the honor of a lifetime. Harmon hopes it will build awareness for the need of lifesaving bridges for poor communities around the world. In his spare time, Harmon enjoys playing guitar, golfing, and spending time with his family and friends |
