The Rotary Clubs of Gloucester and Gloucester Point, Virginia were the original supporting clubs of the Bridges to Prosperity program in 2001. Since then, both clubs have sponsored or been the primary supporters of four grant programs through the Rotary Foundation. More recently, the Rotary Clubs of Warwick and Newport News, Virginia have joined as sponsoring clubs. The most recent active grants are the Honduras Footbridge Program (fiscal year 2006-07), the Peru Phase II Program (2007-08), and the Ethiopia Nile bridge Program (2007-08). Grants from Rotary clubs provide the initial seed funding and about 1/3 of the overall funding for the Bridges to Prosperity programs. For the other Rotary clubs that have sponsored bridges, see the current listing.

How Rotary Clubs can get involved: There are three primary ways clubs can get involved. The most common way is for a club to sponsor a bridge through a Rotary humanitarian grant. To sponsor your own club's bridge, $2,500 per year is needed over a two year period ( or $5,000 total in one year). Such footbridge grant support also earns your club or members Recognition Points/Paul Harris credits. Another more involved way to get involved is for a club to sponsor the grant and an entire country's bridge program. Finally, many clubs choose to support the grant program at levels under the bridge sponsorship levels. For more information on how you club can assist, contact your Rotary club international or foundation chair, or .

How to get involved with other club members: Volunteer opportunities are available through your club both here in the USA and in the countries where our programs are in progress. There are two primary options. One is to work on one of the club sponsored bridge sites where a 35 day camping-in-tents stay is required. See the volunteer section on this website for more information. Second, are opportunities to visit the host clubs inside the countries where we work. Such visits normally last two weeks, with three days being spend living with local club members and three days visiting a bridge site. The remainder of the 2 week stay can be used to see the tourist sites the country has to offer. Exchanges of this type are typically organized by one or two clubs working together to form a team of 4-12 participants. When such a team of USA Rotarians is formed and dates for travel selected, we help put the team in contact with the local country Rotary clubs to insure that the local hosting goes smoothly. For such volunteer and exchange opportunities, contact your Rotary club international or foundation chair, or .
